My Diving Equipment
Posted by admin on Sep 15, 2010 in | 0 comments
Firstly….. Let me point out that this is a light hearted look at my diving equipment. A friend of mine got a photo of me in my diving gear (photo is from 2004 ish) He did such a good job of labelling the kit, I thought I’d make use of it on my pages. This Scuba Diving Equipment List is for you as divers, non-divers, or soon to be divers to get a better understanding of each piece of equipment, what it is, what it does, and why it is important to us as Scuba Divers. Scuba Diving equipment is a form of life support systemthat keeps us alive while visiting an unknown world that we ordinarily wouldn’t have been able to enter. It is for this reason, that your equipment must be of the highest quality.

1. Perspex Hat
Perspex Hat eh? Well this clever little thing also doubles up as a diving mask which you’ll need underwater!

2. Breathing Pipe
The so-called ‘Breathing Pipe’ has lump on the end of it which we call the regulator. This obviously regulates the the air coming from your cylinder in order to supply it to your mouth at a pressure (on demand) which is comfortable to breathe.

3. Red Plastic Thingie
The ‘red plastic thingie’ is a hose clip to hold your hoses so they don’t dangle all over the place.

4. Underwater Light-Sabre
Almost as good as a light sabre! This is my trusted Greenforce umbilical torch. I still use it now, although since the picture (above), I have replaced the head with a tri LED head (like the one on the right), which can last for a couple of months worth of diving on a single charge. I thoroughly recommend using LED diving torches because they last for much longer and also give a brighter light. I also carry an LED Led Lenser for a backup. (This takes 4 x AA batteries and lasts for about 40 hours!)

5. Clip-On Wot-Cha-Ma-Call-It
Now nº 5 is pointing to the ‘SeaQuest’ name on the BCD and that is the next one (nº 6) so I’ll skip this one… But hang on, Cylinders aren’t mentioned so lets make this link for cylinders. I’m an air junkie so I normally dive with a 15L and 3L pony.
For my cylinder testing I use East Coast Diving.

6. Blue Baggy Wotsit
This Wotsit was my old SeaQuest BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) which I’ve now replaces with a ‘Buddy C0mmando’. Not that there was anything wrong with the SeaQuest, I just had the opportunity to buy the Buddy, new at a good price…
